With estimated figures of over 4.5 million visitors, Cambridge is a major international tourist destination.
Tourism is part of the character of Cambridge and adds a cosmopolitan feel to this historic university city. Tourism and the visitor industry adds £334m to the local economy, employs over 6,500 people directly and another 2,000 in businesses that support tourism trade. That's 10% of the workforce and 1 in every 4 new jobs is in the visitor industry.
One of the challenges is to ensure that Cambridge welcomes tourists and serves them well, while also conserving the character and environment of the city.
